Car Hire Uganda is really a great way to explore the country’s beautiful landscapes at your own pace. Right from the National parks to big cities, here are the most essential tips to help and guide first-time travelers so they can have a smooth and memorable self drive Uganda experience. 

1. Choose the right vehicle 

Uganda being mixed with several road conditions, you need to consider places you are visiting as you choose a vehicle to rent. For off-road travels, renting a 4×4 vehicle is recommended. For city drives, you can go for a small/compact SUV or even rent a saloon/sedan car. 

2. Understand Self-drive vs Chauffeur

6. Try to get well versed with the local traffic rules of Uganda

In Uganda, driving is on the left hand and overtaking is on the right hand. Speed limits are; 40km/hr in national parks, 50km/hr in urban areas, 80km/hr on highways. Always respect the road signs and expect traffic officers along the road especially on highways. 

7. Plan for fuel while navigating 

Fuel stations in Uganda may be scarse especially in remote areas. So you should always refuel early enough to avoid incoveniences. Mind to download offline maps as network can be at times limited in remote areas. 

8. Respect the wildlife

While in National parks, note that the animals have 100% right of way. So if you encounter animals crossing, you are subjected to waiting for them untill they are done with using the road. Always keep distance away from the wild animals no matter how friendly the may seem to be.
